Carlswald

INTRODUCING CARLSWALD

Carlswald is one of Midrand’s oldest suburbs and was originally divided into stands of approximately 2 hectares (5 acres). Its proximity to the N1 and Gautrain has made it vulnerable to development and the City of Johannesburg has zoned high density development of between 20 and 50 dwelling units per hectare around the perimeter and recent changes in zoning through the Nodal Development Framework has increased this to 20 units per hectare in the core areas. This will put a great deal of strain on an already inadequate road, water, electricity and sewage infrastructure.

The 2025 rains (more between January and April than in the whole of 2024), have escalated the problems faced by residents, notably “The Farm”” that comprises 22 hectares and straddles Springfield and Milford roads. See the article in the Midrand Reporter dated 25 April.

Carlswald is a cohesive community co-ordinated by Carlswald Residents’ Association, where residents work together to ensure their security, keep their suburb clean and monitor developments.
